Get Smart!     Get Fit!    Get Right!

The Holidays' are over, and you probably made some resolutions to kick some habits and pick up new ones. Chances are you made some resolutions last year too. 63% people keep up their resolution after two months. And 67% people make 3 or more resolutions each year. Are 2008's resolutions the same or similar to last year's? Why? Probably because you weren't really ready to make the LIFESTYLE change that is necessary to modify your behavior and achieve your resolutions! Most resolutions are health oriented. However, what most people fail to realize is that resolutions are a process. Healthy living isn't easy. And we as people of color have more than just a seasonal reason for wanting to make a change. Our lives and health depend on it!!!

To make this happen, I have designed a one-month program that targets improving your fitness, nutrition and mental wellness - in just 30 days! That leaves you with 11 more months to enjoy and maintain "A New You in the New Year"!

I would like to thank this week's distinguished guests Dr. George Jenkins, and Dr. Sampson Davis, familiarly known as THE THREE DOCTORS (along with their long-time friend Dr. Rameck Hunt) for joining us on "Keeping It Real" with Reverend Sharpton. Drs. Davis, Jenkins, and Hunt made not only a pact to themselves as teens to stick together-go to college-graduate-and become doctors, but made a pact and commitment to our community to uplift, inspire, and mentor our children to live beyond their dreams and fulfill their potential. Many of us already know and live every day what statistics report: that more Black families are headed by a single parent; and Blacks have lower rates of marriage and marital stability compared to all other ethnicities.

The Three Doctors detail in their most recent book The BOND the national epidemic of fatherlessness and how it impacts our young children and the ability for Black men and women to relate to one another. In their own words and those of their fathers' they speak about how they felt about their fathers' inability to be in their lives, the crucial life lessons they learned, and the work they put in to reconnect with them as adult men. I am grateful to Dr. Davis and Dr. Jenkins for sharing their very personal story with us. I know they have inspired millions of our youth!

Remember … we are a powerful people and have the ability to be successful beyond belief, but we need a little support from each other to get there. Please continue to reach back and help young sisters and brothers live beyond their dreams.
